Momo – Prospero Players Latest Production 2013

After Michael Ende enchanted the world with ‘The Neverending Story’, he wrote Momo,
the tale of a young girl. Alone, Momo lives in the ruins of an ancient amphitheater in an uncharted European City.

‘Prospero Players’ production of Momo captures this wise and wondrous tale with ease and abundance.

The people of the city befriend Momo, and find that she has a unique gift – the astonishing ability to ‘listen’. Her presence simply enables people to connect with themselves and experience a flourish of imaginings. She is rich, not in material possessions but in the love and laughter of her companions.

All things change when the sinister Grey Citizens take a hold of the city and Momo‘s friends. She finds herself alone.  Courageously she dissipates the plan of the Grey Citizens in a thrilling struggle for life… for Time.

Glugs of Gosh at Woy Woy

Thank you to all the audiences who have supported our work.

Our Cessnock show was very successful and much appreciated. It has been an enriching experience for our players to perform in different venues, and our ensemble is definitely growing in strength due to facing these challenges.

We have plans to take The Glugs of Gosh to festivals and on a wider tour in the future. But for now its off to a very intimate little theatre in the Central Coast – The Peninsula Theatre in Woy Woy. This space seats just over 100 people.

We have only two shows here:

Saturday 28th May – 7pm
Sunday 29th May – 2pm

There are seats still available for both of these times.
The address is Cnr McMasters Rd. and Ocean Beach Rd, Woy Woy.
Tickets can be pre-booked from the Laycock Street Theatre website: http://www.laycockstreettheatre.com/whats_on.html

We hope you enjoy the wonderful Glugs of Gosh in this venue also.

Glugs of Gosh at Cessnock

Straight from a stunning season at the Playhouse, Newcastle, Prospero Players presents its latest production, The Glugs of Gosh, at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, May 21 at 2pm and again at 7pm. This is a 75 minute stage adaption of the warm, funny and poignant Australian classic by poet and larakin, C.J. Dennis.

Described by Ken Longworth from the Newcastle Herald as a “visual knockout”, this production has, he writes, “ the adult members of the audience laughing hilariously then quietening down when they realise there could be an element of truth to the joke.”

Directed by Vija Docherty and Joel Gajewski, this extraordinary play is suitable for all. Children will be captivated by the quirky humour and the other-worldliness of the piece, while grown-ups are given the chance to reflect on the Glugs’ tendency to view their world as a consumable commodity.

Sym, the hero (played by Joel Gajewski), rises above his ‘gluggish’ inheritance with the help of his wise and loving father, Joi (played by Daniel Docherty), to become a free-thinking Glug who deeply appreciates simplicity and the radiant beauty of the natural world.

This production includes incredible costumes and make-up for a cast of eleven, by Vija Docherty and Lee Zaunders, original music by Peter Muddle and Arthur Rackham-inspired set by Sophia Montefiore.

Tickets (all tickets $20) are available from the box office at the Cessnock City Council administration building, The  Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on 4990 7134, or online at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/cpac

Also for Peninsula Theatre, Woy Woy, May 28 at 7pm and May 29 at 2pm ph. 43233233 or online at www.laycockstreettheatre.com

Our Latest Production – The Glugs of Gosh

Glugs of GoshProspero Players, a Newcastle based non-profit theatre company, are pleased to announce the staging of their latest production The Glugs of Gosh at the Playhouse, (Civic Precinct, Newcastle).

This dramatisation of The Glugs of Gosh is based on C.J. Dennis’ Australian Classic. First published in 1917, The Glugs of Gosh is a story of Sym and the dwellers of Gosh. It portrays reckless corruption and decadence, blind acceptance, treachery and the triumph of individuality with an undeniable relevance to our time.

Prospero Players has developed a production with a sensitivity to the original work and that can be enjoyed by all the family. This company is highly regarded for their sincere attempts to create productions that are a synthesis of all the arts and The Glugs of Gosh combines an attention to Dennis’ magical verse with music by Peter Muddle, set design by Sophia Montefiore and costumes and make-up by Vija Docherty and Lee Zaunders.

The poignant irony and superb rhymes of C.J. Dennis’ work are best appreciated when spoken out-loud, therefore, a dramatisation of this quality is not only a joy to witness, but also pays deep homage to a text that really ought to be more familiar to us all.
